A Broken Home, 2019

“A Broken Home” premiered in November, 2019 as a projection on the Daniels & Fisher Clock Tower as part of the Denver Theater District’s “NIGHTLIGHTS DENVER” initiative. The video depicts the physical and psychological toll that unpaid household labor, especially in combination with other traditional participation in the job market, can take on women, and women of color in particular. As women participate in the workforce in record numbers, they are still expected to accomplish the majority of household labor. The actors are depicted stretching, contorting, and swinging their heads around in circles to portray the “stretching thin” of household laborers. Flower bouquets are also used as a symbolic representation for women in the home.
