Sensography, 2022

Sensography is an Augmented Reality artwork which utilizes a 3D scan of an environment that is personal and precious to the artist, and envisions two human forms which emerge and meld into the landscape. It explores the divine human relationship with our surrounding landscapes. We as a species have a tendency to draw lines which separate us from nature to justify harm and ownership. This AR piece and corresponding print envisions the entanglement between human and environment, and blurs the boundaries and boxes we often find ourselves confined within. The rocks and grass are captured from an area in the Colorado Front Range where the artist spent her summers as a child. Sensography tries to capture what it feels like to revisit a part of one’s personhood that is situated in a specific time and place.

The AR piece is accompanied by a still image that acts as a target for the AR object. The print is a collaborative work between artist and AI, which envisions a hybrid human/landscape composition.

Sensography is a tribute to the visceral and instinctive human relationship with our surrounding landscape, and how those relationships are obscured and mediated by time, memory, and intervening technology.
