fall with grace / fall from grace, 2020

This animation explores the tension between being dropped and taking leaps. It centers around various gestural drawings of people, mostly aerialists, flying through air and being caught by safety nets which are invisible. This video seeks to untangle nets as objects that can both capture unruly beings rendering them flightless, but also catch those of us that fall, and save from harm. Depending on perspective, privilege, and life circumstances, one's approach to nets can be very different. Despite this, the knots and patterns of a net weave a web whose whole does not exist without the sum of its parts. Perspective shifts and narratives of humans and non-humans exist in a web of knots and tangles, but do they catch or do they capture?
